CLICK on pictures above for close up and detailed look at art. NEW PIECES BELOW MARCH 1999
NEW MARCH 1999.
Leopard, approx 3 feet tall x 2 1/2 feet wide, 600 pieces, framed
in homemade black walnut crown mold style.
Detail of Leopard above. Note the individual whiskers, as well as
the eye (each of which has over 20 individual pieces of wood cut
out). It is rather startling to realize that this is a flat piece
of wood looking like glass! This is my first African piece.
Detail on left side. If you look very closely, I scrolled my name
in his left eyebrow above his eye. "Kerry" It is in the
Golden oak stain. Below his eye in black walnut stained cuts, I
spelled "Shirts" while in the very corner of his eye I
scrolled the year "98" (can't see that, not enough
detail). I scrolled my signature in the left eye because I am
left handed. Note the eye, which has over 20 pieces cut into it.
It looks just like glass, but is actually flat wood!
NEW March 1999,
Deer fawn, sold to the National Rifle Association for their local
fundraiser in 1999. Cute little guy isn't he.........
North American animals are majestic and are a must have for any serious hunter or huntress of the wilderness! Bears are a favorite theme, as witness the Yellowstone Park crowds! The bear at far 2nd left is over 3 feet tall, mounted on a natural burl slab. I photographed him as we met up in the Idaho wilderness. I stood up tall to scare and intimidate him, all 6 foot, 220 pound of me, and he.... oh, uh, yeah, well, O.K., actually I did take his picture, he is a stuffed animal, but you'd never know it looking at him. The cougar next makes a fun and interesting piece to put on a gun cabinet, which I did.
Oh hey, speaking of mantle pieces, the two fighting bull elk on the carved 5 foot long burl would grace any mantle with a demeanor that simply can not be beat. The moose I installed in the panel of a gun cabinet. The bugling elk I installed in an oak coffee table. The fighting elk on the slab are 5 feet long by 3 feet high. I carved the mountain in the background and put eagles soaring in the distance on the mountain.
The leaping cougar is from a photo I took. This cat is the 7th largest ever taken in the world! He is mounted with his hind feet only on the wall, and in a full leap. He stretches over 9 feet, that's right 9 feet long! He is simply gigantic by any standard, and a thrill to scrollsaw. I have many angles taken of this cat. I sat right in front of him and snapped the photo for this piece of art. Powderhorn Taxidermy, an excellent shop in McCammon, Idaho, has mounted him on the wall in his basement.
The mule deer was installed in a gun cabinet as was the ram head. So far there isnt anything I cant cut, so long as I have a good drawing or photo. I enjoy taking many photos myself and cutting from them. I am just beginning to research African animals to cut. Special orders are certainly available, as I am expanding my portfolio to include the exotic animals of Africa, Central and South America.
