Sage Grouse

This is a male sage grouse in full display on his strutting grounds. These birds display in late April, early May in Idaho. They make a booming sound and strut on what is called a "lecht", defending their territory against other males. Femalse fly over and choose their husbands. They begin the new brood for the year. They are a beautiful large bird, the size of a small turkey.
