This piece portrays the Savior at his time of Atonement. The drama of his face is simply marvelous. His eyes tell it all. I have been told the eyes of my portraits are what makes them seem so alive. Jesus' eyes each have approx 12 pieces. I cut the exact detail, including the tears running down his cheeks. I made the Crown of Thorns from Russian olive branches growing wild here in Idaho. I stuck myself pretty good gathering them. It gave me a new appreciation. The blood red velvet was the finishing touch requested by the customer who bought this. The large middle cross at top is made from cherry. The two flanking crosses are black walnut. The three cross together signify the Trinity. Below in each corner are two sacred hearts also made from black walnut. Mahogany frames the entire composition making it a truly reverent and breath taking depiction of the Christ.
