The hanged man's legs are the figure number 4 when you look at him rightside up. This signals us to look at the 4 elements in the four corners of the "World card. His halo and calm face show us that he is in the world, but not of it. Interestingly, when a man was condemned to death for treason, his head was veiled and he was hung from a barren tree.
